The real economics of industrial water reuse

Payback is not just water price. A lifecycle model for reuse that includes risk, permits and the value of supply security.

Beyond the water bill

Most reuse business cases compare the cost of treated water with the price of mains water and stop there. That misses discharge charges, abstraction licence risk, and the cost of a production stop when supply is restricted.

Building the model

We model reuse over a 20-year horizon. It includes capex, energy, chemicals, membrane replacement and labour, against avoided supply and discharge costs. Water prices and drought frequency are stress-tested. On most sites the result is a range, not a single payback figure, and that range is what decision-makers need.

Where reuse wins first

The strongest cases are high-volume, consistent streams with a clear next use: cooling tower make-up, boiler feed and wash water. Start there, prove the economics, then extend.
